Here is my latest work. It is titled "On the Prowl"
I like this image as it shows a non-typical view of the wolf. You normally see the big, strong, perfectly manicured wolf in a lot of wildlife shots. I like the fact that this guy is not at the top and is shy about holding his head high when around the others in the pack.....He is like the "commoner in the pack" just looking to make ends meet.
Original is 13 x 10 done in pencil on illustration board
thank you for stopping by....
omg absolutely gorgeous... i love the story behind the drawing as well.. wow your fur detail is to die for!!! you mentioned you use illustration board.. i havent tried this before.. what brand etc do you use.. and whats it like to work on? i usually use bristol smooth or vellum, arches hot press or stonehenge
Wow !!
Thank you everyone for stopping by and checking out my latest work. I'm glad it has recieved such wonderful comments. I am very happy with how this one has turned out. It was quite a bit of time and a lot of fur/ hair work. Given the size of this one it meant lots of time dealing with layers and trying to create a depth in the coat of this fella.
The illustration board I work on is made by a company called "Peterboro" and it is simply called "No. 27". It is a plate finish, high rag content board which means to me it accepts graphite quite well so that I can achieve nice deep dark values and when I try to do a nice blended lighter tone, I can pull it off with out seeing the texture of the board. I am quite happy with this board for sure. It has taken me quite some time to find this board or a board for all occasions.
Thank you again for all the nice comments....any further questions don't hesitate to shoot me a note or reply.
a very good representation! congrats!

A brand new monthly article which showcases some of deviantART's finest equine artists, as well as recognizing the lesser-known but equally talented ones. Interviews, helpful tutorials and features can all be found here too! I hope you enjoy it.
The idea of this contest is to set you up completely blind with a mythical being - from any world culture - and turn you loose to come up with a deviation based around it!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
